First Avenue resident DJs J Matthews and Nate Laurence present a dance music night the First Saturday of every month in the infamous Record Room of First Avenue nightclub. Their night is called “HotDish” and the whole night is focused on great music, a friendly environment, no drama, and high energy. Each month they showcase the best in the underground house music scene and often are bringing in the leading guest DJs and artist from around the country.
They are part of the Saturday group of resident DJs that make up the parent name “BLACK” which has been successfully providing the best in house, techno, and a wide spectrum between these two genres of dance music.
May 7th, 2011 HotDish is flying in internationally known music producer and DJ, “Camouflage” for a night of great dance music that is not to be missed. Hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, DJ Camouflage is one of the leading house music producers in the current underground house music scene and has been within the music industry since 1996. He has made music that has released on major labels alongside such artists as Mark Farina, Colette, DJ Sneak, Tommy Largo, Joshua Heath, Kinky Movement and many more.
In 2007, Camouflage started and is owner of Chicago House FM Radio, which has become the dominant and most recognized online house music radio show around the world. 1996 in the city of Johannesburg, Camouflage got educated at a club called REALITY and started DJing and getting into producing tracks. Spending 5 years in the UK, Camouflage was a resident at Dirtydubbin and played at many venues in London including Pacha and Ministry of Sound. Camouflage was also part of the Dirtydubbin IBIZA tour in 2007 having played out at Kanya, Savannah and Es Paradis. Camouflage has also played alongside some of House Music influential DJ’s/producers such as Joey Youngman (aka Wolfgang Gartner), Giom, Colette, Kinky Movement, Troydon, Guy Herman, Real Time Hand Motion and many more. Moving to the US he has continued the career playing locally and nationally. He has played at the Winter Music Conference (WMC) since 2009, and has been jet setting to places like Oregon, Miami, and now Minneapolis. The latest project is the inception of Chicago House FM Records, which he and his wife, Seraphim, co-own and manage. It's brand spankin new and already they are releasing tracks from well known artists such as Sonny Fodera, Kinky Movement, Soydan, Mr. Hun and more.
HOTDISH
HotDish is both a collaborative of djs (Nate Laurence & J. Matthews) and a Minneapolis-based event crew. HotDish values the diversity of EDM in the Midwest, yet it is our aim to provide a space for - above all else - funky, new-school, and soulful house music in the Twin Cities. HotDish (hosts of the best funky-house parties in the Twin Cities since 2006) showcases talent that is pioneering and unifying - both local and international icons of this genre.

Saturday nights in the Record Room are thudding with the sounds of the underground while an eclectic mix of party-goers gather downstairs for Too Much Love. The music upstairs - a fervent big brother to the sounds below - is hosted by techno heads Particle People, techno/house dynamos Loud + Clear, and funky house doctors HotDish. These three crews work collectively to institute a dance-culture favorite in Minneapolis - fittingly dubbed BLACK (if you've been in the Record Room, you know why).

If persistence and passion is a recipe for success, Nate Laurence (Minneapolis, MN, USA) characterizes the journey. Nate is the quadruple threat: veteran DJ since 1994, prolific producer, event-coordinator, and label owner.

Under the moniker “DJ Nickles,” J Matthews has made incalculable cameo appearances at nearly every Twin Cities nightclub and multiple raves since the early 90s, in addition to high-profile performances at the long running “Bump” at the Phoenix Landing in Cambridge, MA. Today, Matthews continues to showcase his talent throughout the cities while holding down his residency at First Avenue and working tirelessly on his International on-line radio show “Funk Yeah FM” on ChicagoHouseFM.com.

Nicky T., also very well known already as Oliver Twist, is bringin it right to the HotDish dance floor. With a careful Ear, Technical skills and an ever growing music library of the Hottest Bangers and Coolest Melodies in the underground world you can Expect Nicky T to be on top of the Vibe. The only goal in his career is to keep the dance floor moving side to side. Whether in a high class club environment or the dirtiest of all night outlaw parties.
