MAGES

Music is the most fascinating export the Twin Cities have to offer. Mages formed as a two-piece acoustic guitar band in Minneapolis, composed of songwriters John Paul (Jack) O'Connor and Tyler Martin. The sound has since been enriched with the addition of sister Amy providing vocals and auxiliary percussion, Scott Barden on upright bass and vocals, and drums by Robert T. Goswitz.

Mages are eager to conjure up fresh arrangements that will attract appreciation from audiences and please longtime fans. A self-titled debut album was independently released in 2009 (CD, MP3), followed by the Magestic EP in 2010 (Vinyl 45", MP3). The band are dedicating attention to new material and the songwriting process once again, as well as continuing to play gigs. After months of recording, new releases are slated for this year.

LUKE REDFIELD

Luke Redfield is a poet-songwriter in the tradition of Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, and Bob Dylan -- with whom he shares his Duluth, MN birthplace. "The Mesabi Iron Range has a way of carving songs into the hearts of its troubadours," says Redfield, referring to Northern Minnesota's mineral-rich soil overlooking the world's largest freshwater lake, Superior. Strange as it sounds, there may be an elemental muse swirling amidst the sea shanties and folk ballads that have come to define the music of the upper Midwest.
