BLACK
Every Saturday in The Record Room
Saturday nights in the Record Room are thudding with the sounds of the underground while an eclectic mix of party-goers gather downstairs for Too Much Love. The music upstairs - a fervent big brother to the sounds below - is hosted by techno heads Particle People, techno/house dynamos Loud + Clear, and funky house doctors HotDish. These three crews work collectively to institute a dance-culture favorite in Minneapolis - fittingly dubbed BLACK (if you've been in the Record Room, you know why).
MACHINNES
Transplanted from the middle of Sweden to the middle of the United States, Matt has been influenced by the cultural connections of his past. Immersion in the burgeoning Minneapolis techno scene has created a sound equal parts Ghostly, Poker Flat and Kompakt, yet distinct. After many years of DJing and playing live sets in the local scene he co-founded a new record label Central Recordings and released a couple tracks which went on to be played and charted by DJs such as Claus Bachor and Maxx-T.
DJ HYPERACTIVE
Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive leaped up out of Chicago right at the peak of his career on a straight shot to SoCal to take on the daunting challenge of opening a record store, managing 4 Track Records, and jumping on planes. Come 1998 it nearly tapped him out and set him into seclusion for nearly a ten year hiatus. Here we are again, woken from all of the murmuring amidst a culture and scene who's nearly seen the complete obliteration of vinyl production and distribution stateside with having to lean heavily on the feeds from abroad.
LOW-GAIN
A pianist with 7 years of classical training under his fingertips, in 1998 Logan Erickson (before being known the world over as Low-Gain) embarked on a personal mission to give inspiration and hope to all kids with an old Casio keyboard and some solder, to give them the skills they need forge fresh compositions with nothing but creativity and the science of circuit bending.
NANCY CHENG
Nancy began her life as a DJ in Los Angeles, California where she stirred up the crowds with her own dark and sexy taste for underground house music. After a few years playing in and around southern California, opening for acts such as Miss Kittin and Electric Indigo, Nancy decided it was time to expand her horizons. She then relocated to Taipei, Taiwan before returning to the US & settling in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
