Long D.O.E. Records has been a part of out lives for about 4 years now, and since the beginning we have been very successful. Being a part of the team, I have the privilege of knowing the background of the masterminds behind this successful company. Tony Bones and Big Wiz have contributed a substantial amount to the hip-hop community and are still contributing to this day. Long Doe, Bones and Wiz had an interesting start, and what’s in store for the label is yet to be seen. It all started in 2002 when the duo Tony Bones and Big Wiz who were childhood friends, reconnected with producer/performer Will Greens. When they had met him they started doing music in his basement. True hip hop heads, the duo worked an original hip hop sound that is gaining attention and fans at a rapid pace. They have been building a strong following beyond their Southside neighborhood. Both living on the Southside, where tough times are no stranger and it reflects in the music. It was early 2004 when Mitch, Steve, Tony Bones and Big Wiz decided to sign papers to start the label, instead of trying to get signed to a major label. In 2005 is when they started taking on other artists to the label. The first group was T-N-T, which were Soulution and Hennesy. Mitch and the rest of them accepted T-N-T because they really liked the talent that they saw, and knew they had potential. After that they started getting more artists such as: Impirio, Mommy Game, Mike The Martry, Aquafresh and Sariah. Tony Bones and Big Wiz have been carving out their place on the Twin Cities hip hop scene for over six years, and by that time they were set to debut an album. The album was called “We Made It Official”, that came out in 2005, it also had features by other local artists as well. The album is sold at local record stores such as, Mindstate, and Cheapo. They have done so many shows that sell out places like, Foundation, Karma, 1st ave and many more. Bringing big artists such as: Twista, Do-Or-Die, Devin the Dude, Crucial Conflict, Physcodrama, Talib Kweli, Saigon, Haystak, KIllarmy, Brother Ali, Bizzy Bone, Phil The Agony, Alchemist, Obie Trice and more, which most of them are also featured on upcoming albums. Being one of the owners/CEO of Long D.O.E. Records LLC,Tony Bones has been promoting live shows for about 5 years now, and has thrown 50+ concerts with well known hip hop artists, from new age to late greats. Tony Bones grew up on the Southside of Minneapolis, MN. He started rapping when he was 14 years old; he’s nearly 15 years into his rapping career. He’s kept his skills sharp by staying relevant in an ever growing undiscovered pool of local talent. Make sure to check out his new solo release “Talk Of The Streets” which features music with many industry level artists. Growing up in South Minneapolis Big Wiz honed his skills in friends’ basements on hot mics. He started rapping when he was just in 7th grade. After years of staged shows Big Wiz formed Long D.O.E. Records with his partners in 2005 and has done nothing but trying to get his music out there. He delivers what the people want to hear, especially on his solo album “Words Of Wizdom” which came out in January 2009. Wiz produced the album, and it’s a mixture of hip hop, soul and r&b for the people. He hopes to see you out at a show soon. When this group had found me on MySpace in 2006, I had no idea who they were, or what local hip hop even was, so I clicked on Tony Bones and Big Wiz’s page and checked it out. I liked it. The music was very catching, and had a good beat to it. I started checking them out at shows that they would have booked throughout the Minneapolis area, and sending out flyers to my friends on MySpace to come and check them out too. They always put on a great show, and could always get the crowd going. Within about 2 years they noticed that I was definitely down for them and that’s when they made me Head Promoter. I run the merchandise tables at shows which includes selling T-Shirts, CD’s, posters and stickers. I also promote over the internet including Face book and MySpace, putting flyers around the metro area. I also do some booking of shows as well. It’s been 4 years now, and I couldn’t ask for any better label to work for. It’s like having another family. We have have gone so far and have done so much. In the last 4 years alone, Tony Bones and Big Wiz have won a award for “Best White Rappers” in the twin cities, we have all traveled together to promote and perform, in areas such as: Mexico,NYC,Duluth,Iowa, and the Twin Cities. Impirio has even had his song “Nice,Sweet And Sexy” featured on MTV’s “The Real World Cancun”, “Candy Girls” and “She Like Me” on “Khloe and Kourtney Take Miami”. We have definitely left a mark on the Minneapolis area for the local hip hop scene, and we are not done yet. There is more in store for everyone, so just stay tuned!!
