BLACK
Every Saturday in The Record Room
Saturday nights in the Record Room are thudding with the sounds of the underground while an eclectic mix of party-goers gather downstairs for "Too Much Love." The music upstairs - a fervent big brother to the sounds below - is hosted by techno heads "Particle People," techno/house dynamos "Loud + Clear," and funky house doctors "HotDish." These three crews work collectively to institute a dance-culture favorite in Minneapolis - fittingly dubbed "BLACK" (if you've been in the Record Room, you know why).
HOTDISH
HotDish is both a collaborative of djs (Nate Laurence & J. Matthews) and a Minneapolis-based event crew. HotDish values the diversity of EDM in the Midwest, yet it is our aim to provide a space for - above all else - funky, new-school, and soulful house music in the Twin Cities. HotDish (hosts of the best funky-house parties in the Twin Cities since 2006) showcases talent that is pioneering and unifying - both local and international icons of this genre! HotDish (1ST SATURDAYS @ BLACK) occurs EVERY FIRST SATURDAY of the month at the INFAMOUS First Avenue Nightclub's Record Room!

JONN HAWLEY
Music and dance have always been driving forces in Jonn Hawley's life. At age nine Hawley learned to play the saxophone, cello, and stand up bass. As a teenager music continued to shape the course of Hawley's life; in the late eighties he began break dancing. In 1991 Jonn started actively pursuing his love of music as a deejay. Hawley drew inspiration from the budding house and techno music scenes in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Detroit.
LEE JARVIS
A fusion of multi-cultured London upbringing and current Chicago lifestyle, Lee Jarvis brings a hybrid style that reflects both his roots and present surroundings. One of the most exciting young DJs to emerge over the last few years, Lee’s blend of house and techno spans deep disco dubs to jackin beats to tech house tracks, all mixed with his customary energy and passion. This unique style has seen Lee play at most of London’s major venues, plus many other UK, Europe and US gigs.
NATE LAURENCE
Nate Laurence is the triple threat: veteran DJ since 1995, prolific producer, and event- coordinator. All roles blend to concoct one of THE freshest talents in the new-school underground house music scene today. A career that developed over the course of a decade -- largely behind the scenes -- has now become impossible to ignore. This old-school raver (once known as DJ Unity) -- a patron of former troupe UNIK Communications - has been an undying disciple of EDM for over a decade and has been scorching parties throughout many life-stages.
J MATTHEWS
Under the moniker “DJ Nickles,” J Matthews has made incalculable cameo appearances at nearly every Twin Cities nightclub and multiple raves since the early 90s, in addition to high-profile performances at the long running “Bump” at the Phoenix Landing in Cambridge, MA. Today, Matthews continues to showcase his talent throughout the cities while holding down his residency at First Avenue and working tirelessly on his International on-line radio show “Funk Yeah FM” on ChicagoHouseFM.com.
