PHANTOM TAILS
Phantom Tails formed in early 2009 when the four members starting playing in the attic of an old brownstone apartment in Minneapolis. Two members moved from the gulf-coast of Texas, the other two from the ruggedlands of Wisconsin. All four members had been playing together for some time in the other bands before indulging to embark on a more electronic, gritty, and concise musical path. Wielding distorted analog synthesizers, fuzz bass, and angular guitar while brandishing electronic drum beats sampled from vintage 808 machines, traditional sumatran folk music, and sonar whale recordings, they have executed this transition. After writing over a dozen songs in a couple of weeks, they recorded a demo there in the attic and started playing shows around Minneapolis. A year later, they finished Sounds of the Hunchback Whale, their debut full-length release. They describe their music as Deep Space Doom Funk.
THE GOONDAS
A glazed roll of the eyes, a hiccup, and a slight stagger. Brenden Green spins his head, then collapses to the ground and writhes on the stage, his clothes ripped and tattered, his feet bare, as he wraps himself up in his mic cord and nearly strangles himself with it. All around is ear-splitting noise, an unholy, raucous mixture of whiskey-soaked blues and rock 'n' roll from a guitar turned up to 11 and a drummer wearing only his underwear (plus a flurry of leg kicks thrown in by the bassist, just for good measure).
