"We're Birthday Suits, not 'The' Birthday Suits"

Since their debut in 2005, the Minneapolis-based duo of Matthew Kazama and Hideo Takahashi has excelled at tossing elements of late-‘90s mathcore and classic Reagan-era punk against the wall with disarming power and impressively fresh results. Their latest release, The Minnesota: Mouth To Mouth (Nice and Neat Records), sticks to that formula, but with a smidge more spit-polish shining up their succinct sense of melody. The Birthday Suits’ biggest asset remains the way their blurry-but-brilliant mix of sharp edges and curvy hooks matches up neatly with their dark-humored lyrics and stage presence that feels as gleeful as it does dangerous. Fans of Future of the Left and No Means No will not be disappointed. [Hannah Levin, Seattle Weekly]
GOSPEL GOSSIP
"Gospel Gossip is the only band that falls under the category of "shoegaze" that drives me to dance. I'm not talking about swaying my shoulders while my feet are in place like a good indie kid. I'm talking about the kind of dancing that you hope either breaks something or gets you laid. Their post punk influences surface most evidently in the throbbing bass lines and danceable drums that make you move like Ian Curtis. If you take acid or eat some of those red caps with white spots it is going to take maybe 20 minutes or so for the psychedelic experience to really kick into gear.
MHZ
Started by Andrew Claydon and Don Blum back in 1998. After going thru a few bass players, Ben Mancell came along in 1999 and understood what we were doing. He was a perfect fit. Ben insisted that we didn't need a singer and we where fine as a power trio. That was pretty much it. We had some down time in 2002 when or practice space flooded and Don started touring with the Von Bondies constantly. We then replaced him with Shawn Gates in 2002. Shawn left in 2004. Ryan, drummer for The Piranhas, played for us on our 2003 west coast tour. Steve Marton is now our current drummer.
