Featuring
RILO KILEY
Rilo Kiley is a Los Angeles-based indie pop band formed in 1998 and fronted by Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett. Both were former child actors who met up in 1998 through mutual friend Pierre DeReeder, a schoolfriend of Sennets from La Jolla who plays bass in the band. The band also features Jason Boesel on drums, a replacement for the original drummer Dave Rock.
They began their career on Barsuk Records, releasing Take Offs and Landings in 2001. They moved to Omaha-based indie label Saddle Creek for their second album, 2002s The Execution of All Things. But come time for their third release, More Adventurous in 2004, the band left Saddle Creek for Brute/Beaute, a Warner Bros. imprint.
2004 saw a great increase in recognition for the band, as Sennett and Boesel released an album with their band The Elected and Lewis sang backup on Ben Gibbards (Death Cab for Cutie) indie electronic side project The Postal Service. Lewis toured with The Postal Service before heading out on two tours in support of Rilo Kileys More Adventurous in the summer and fall of 2004. The album spent late 2004 high on Billboard Magazines Heatseekers Chart, success only furthered by appearances on the Late Night with Conan OBrien and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band opened for Bright Eyes on the international leg of Conor Obersts tour for 2005s Im Wide Awake, Its Morning. In Fall 2005, Rilo Kiley were the opening act for the North American dates of Coldplays Twisted Logic Tour.
With Special Guests
NIK FREITAS
Growing up in Visaliaan isolated, agricultural town between Fresno and Bakersfield in Californias Central Valley--Nik Freitas found solace in skateboarding, photography, and, of course, music. A self-taught musician able to play guitar, bass, drums, and piano, Nik started recording on a 4-track in his teens--creating fully-realized, fleshed-out songs completely on his own. This early music combined dexterous musicianship and solid pop-craftsmanship with a disarming emotional innocence.
THE SPINTO BAND
In early 1996, the world was seemingly reconciling some of its evolutionary hang-ups. Gary Kasparov defeated Deep Blue in one of the most epic chess matches of all time. Scientists discovered the possible evidence of life on Mars. President Clinton appointed the first female US Secretary of State. And in one cluttered basement in Wilmington, DE, the Spinto Band began to materialize. Spinto, huh?
